Thesis Response 1:

Senior Project Pre-Production

Brooke Anderson

An exploration of phenomenology and place/environmental graphic design

I knew right away that I wanted to review Brooke Anderson’s thesis because it describes part of a larger topic, i think, which is how people respond to design (graphic design, web design, environmental design, etc.) on a psychological level.

She cited some really great sources and did an excellent job of narrating the story of how a person can experience a restaurant. Branding is no longer just logos and slogans. It incredibly sophisticated; incorporating environmental design and an overall feel. What does a brand make a person feel? Because that’s where psychology comes into play. What is it in the human condition that makes us desire an object or hunger for a meal by a specific restaurant?
